goings on in nyc this weekend

The Satorialist will be participating in a panel discussion on fashion and blogging at The Metropolitan Museum of Art this Sunday.

The event, which is free with admission, will be held in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, from 3:00-4:45pm. Admission to the Met is always based on a "suggested" rate. In other words, pay what you can.

And on Saturday and Sunday, from 12-4pm, "but possibly a little longer" there will be a fleamarket tagsale swapmeet at Goodbye Blue Monday at 1087 Broadway along the Bushwick/Bed-Stuy border. (J train to Koscuiszko- damn, I miss my old neighborhood.) If you've never been to GBM, I strongly suggest checking it out. One of the friendliest, least pretentious thrift stores/ concert venues/ wifi coffee houses you'll ever find. Well, you might not find that combination anywhere else anyway.

bon weekend!

what I've been up to

b left for L.A. again, around noon today, to finish up his wb project and take care of some other stuff. I do my best to find things I like about the place, but truth be told we'd both rather be somewhere else. b's lived there so long that his roots run deep. we hope this will be the last of his trips there.

we've spent so much time together in brooklyn over the last month, experiencing everything as one, discussing politics and history, economics and current events. all that is talked about on public radio, which i keep running as I do my work. the apartment is scattered with piles of jewelry in various states. magnet making on the glass table by the front window. ziplock bags of beads, findings, vintage brooches, bracelets, and various other bits to be sold at the flea in two weeks, on the floor right below. the last of the box kate brought me in the middle of the floor, being methodically sorted through. my desk covered with current projects and little dishes of pieces I've been picking apart. the filing cabinets covered in chains.

last night we watched the darjeeling limited as I cooked bean soup. after it was over, I asked b if he wanted to watch the prequel, hotel chevalier. he said no, that he wanted to watch a doc on the history of the machine gun. I watched hotel chevalier just now. I had seen it when it was first released, looked at the d.l. website, and was instantly inspired by the colors of the film, which is evident in the current design of my website.

I've been resting up a good long time post-flu, and if I don't get back into a yoga class tomorrow, I'll go out of my mind.

working on

updating the website! I'm taking advantage of this overcast day to take a break from jewelry construction and photograph a few new pieces. I often wake up with the most decisive thoughts, and today's motto was "divide and conquer!" (in response to my feeling of being overwhelmed and terribly behind schedule.) I should have some new work up on the site by tonight!

so cool

Over the weekend I had the good fortune of meeting Kate and John, who brought me this amazing bounty. Kate's grandmother had been an avid collector of yard sale jewelry, and Kate, a costume designer, was left wondering what to do with all of it. Through the magic of the internet Kate found me, and now I am reaping the rewards of her grandmother's decades-long hobby. They tell me that what they brought is just the tip of the iceberg. Go grandma, and thanks Kate and John!

progress

my pal felecia came over tonight and helped me with some jewelry finishing. it's amazing, that girl can do anything. we worked out a little barter arrangement, which makes me feel really good. (I had put together her website, as mentioned in a previous post.) with the extended time in L.A. followed by the *plague-like flu* (as it's known on both coasts) I just feel like things are dragging concerning what I need to get done! I cannot wait to get my spring line completed. it seems like forever that customers have been asking for new work, particularly on the wholesale end. but tonight things moved forward and progress was made! woo hoo!

new photos

up on my flickr page.

coming up

Way back in the dead of winter, the mighty Grace of design*sponge contacted me about participating in the brooklyn flea, a new market organized by the people at theBrownstoner. Since then, I've seen interest in the new venture grow, along with the list of vendors. So, b and I will be out there for the first Brooklyn Flea, Sunday, April 6, 10am-6pm. Look for us as part of the design*sponge collective. Our presence should be good news for my nyc customers, as some have expressed an interest in seeing my whole collection live and in person. In addition to my new spring line, I will be bringing all the odds & ends found on my etsy shop. We should be selling during the first few weeks of the market (it will be held every Sunday) and hope to continue if all goes well. So come on out- looks like a great list of vendors.
